Found this article at: http://opinionatedcatholic.blogspot.com/2008/02/is-mike-huckabee-another-lincoln.html
There appears to be a ton of talk again how Huckabee needs to withdraw. I have had the contrary position that Mike staying in the race is good for the party and yes even good for McCain if the gets the nod. It appears that this blogger appears to agree with me and has similar reasons. Let me add another reason.
I am very concerned about some extreme elements trying to go third party. We see that here at the sad and misguided site. The longer that Huckabee is in the race the longer this stuff loses steam. Especially because if Mike does not get the nomination he will bring the social conservatives over to McCain. Again see the above bloggers link I posted Mike Huckabee’s Campaign is Good for the Republican Party.
Now I do believe in miracle. Have no doubt though that Mike Huckabee believes in math. As a Governor that had to submit balanced budgets and didn’t have access to the Money making machine of the Engraving department Mike knows all to well about Math.
However I do know the brokered convention theory and then Mike getting the nomination is a long shot to say the least. However in honor of Presidents’ day I saw something that that perked my interest. That is a post from the Another Man’s Meat and his post Mathematics and Miracles . He brings up some interesting history that is significant and interesting:
Governor Huckabee has also been accused of splitting Republican conservatives, thus enhancing the chances for a Democratic victory in the general election. Well, I don’t believe it, nor does history seem to validate that point of view
.I spent some time this morning re-reading chapter seven, titled “The Revolution of 1860,” of Jim McPherson’s The Battle Cry of Freedom. The chapter is all about the political upheaval taking place in America in 1860. It seems that one man, Abraham Lincoln, much like Mike Huckabee today, wasn’t nearly as interested in electoral mathematics back then as he was in miracles.
The Illinois rail-splitter, and friend of the common man, knew he faced a daunting task. He well understood that William Seward had come to Chicago as the presumptive nominee of the Party. But Lincoln, who once said, “Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any one thing,” pressed the issue of the nomination to the convention floor. History has recorded the outcome of that convention. Lincoln won, the Union was preserved, and slavery was abolished.
Many scholars now believe that Lincoln, in addition to being our greatest political poet, was our greatest President. Thank God that we don’t have to concern ourselves today with a different history, one that might have been written had Lincoln given in to the mathematics he faced. Some quotes from McPherson follow for your edification and enlightenment.
I believe they demonstrate that, while some make assumptions, a few chart their courses to the stars, swim against the collective tide of the naysayers, and then go on to make history:
“Coming into the convention with a large lead based on strength in upper-North states, Seward hoped for a first-ballot nomination. But Republicans were sure to win those states no matter whom they nominated.”“This left Lincoln. By the time the convention’s opening gavel came down on May 16, Lincoln had emerged from a position as the darkest of horses to that of Seward’s main rival.”“Yet so obscure was Lincoln in certain circles before his nomination that some pundits had not included his name on their lists of seven or a dozen or even twenty-one potential candidates. Several newspapers spelled his first name Abram.”
“The first ballot revealed Seward’s weakness and Lincoln’s surprising strength. With 233 votes needed to nominate, Seward fell sixty short at 173 ½ while Lincoln polled 102.”“From then on, Lincoln the rail-splitter became the symbol of the frontier, farm, opportunity, hard work, rags to riches, and other components of the American dream embodied in the Republican self-image.”
“None of the forty thousand people in and around the wigwam ever forgot that moment. All except the diehard Seward delegates were convinced they had selected the strongest candidate.”
We now have the hindsight of history, so we know that Abraham Lincoln was the right candidate for the right time. Some day, when this generation is pushing up the daisies, the history of the 2008 campaign will be written. It may be about John McCain, Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton. And, improbable as it may seem now, it may be about a preacher from a small Arkansas town who was too stubborn to give in to the cackling voices around him calling for his surrender.
So who knows. Regardless I shall as See on my sidebar SUPPORT THE ELEPHANT no matter who it is. Especially in this election when it is so important to do so on my levels.

Two new polls in Texas from
ARG and
POS show a 6 and 4 point lead for Senator McCain in Texas.
As Gov. Huckabee said in his email yesterday, Texas is the place to fight for the nomination. These leads are small considering the attention the media has been heaping on Senator McCain as the “frontrunner.”
Here are a couple of red states we might mention, where Senator McCain had a similar lead:
Georgia won by Gov. Huckabee
Tennessee won by Gov. Huckabee
Alabama won by Gov. Huckabee
Louisiana won by Gov. Huckabee
Kansas won by Gov. Huckabee
How did we win? We never gave up. We made calls, we emailed friends and family, we waved signs, we handed out literature, we ran television ads (thanks to your generosity) and we won.
GO MIKE GO!!!!! Spread the Word!!!

Hmm,
The Republicans for Choice PAC has endorsed Pro-Life candidate John MCain for President:
(CNSNews.com) – The Republicans for Choice Political Action Committee has endorsed John McCain (R-Ariz.), saying he is the best candidate now that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is out of the presidential race.
The Republicans for Choice PAC supports Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, and also wants the Human Life Amendment removed from the plank of the Republican Party.
Republicans for Choice founder and Chairwoman Ann E.W. Stone told Cybercast News Service that McCain’s pro-life position wasn’t an issue.
“(McCain) is (pro-life), but it’s not at the top of his agenda, not like Huckabee or the born-again Romney,” Stone said. “He’s shown his willingness to reach across the party, and we look forward to those discussions.”
Interesting turn of events, but what do Pro-Life groups think about this:
Colleen Parro, executive director of the Republican National Coalition for Life, said the endorsement should make some Republicans uncomfortable.
“My first thought was how embarrassing for the pro-lifers who have signed on for McCain,” Parro said.
If you think this is bad, what about the Pro-Life Democrats, who don’t even have a candidate to consider who is running for President:
Another pro-life group, Democrats for Life of America, said they can’t find a candidate to endorse.
“None of the candidates fit our criteria,” Kristen Day, executive director of DFLA, told Cybercast News Service. “If we were to endorse Obama or Clinton, it would ruin our credibility.
“We are focused on the pro-life Democrats who are running for Congress, the U.S. Senate and in local races across the country.”
What exactly does this group know about John McCain’s true positions that we don’t. Why would a group that supports Roe vs. Wade, and abortion being their one and only issue, support a candidate who is Pro-Life who claims he will appoint Conservative judges, which would result in Roe vs. Wade being overturned.

James Dobson, one of the nation’s most prominent evangelical Christian leaders, backed Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid Thursday night, giving the former Arkansas governor a long-sought endorsement as the Republican field narrowed to a two-man race.In a statement first obtained by The Associated Press, Dobson reiterated his declaration on Super Tuesday that he could not in good conscience vote for John McCain, the front-runner, because of concerns over the Arizona senator’s conservative credentials.
Dobson said given the situation at that point, he was reluctant to choose between “two pro-family candidates whom I could support” — Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
But Dobson wrote that Romney’s announcement Thursday that he was suspending his campaign “changed the political landscape.”

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/02/05/talk_turns_to_huckaboom_ii.html?hpid=topnews
Here in DC, just about every conversation begins with a single word:
“Predictions?”
In about an hour that will change, to “Heard any exits?”
You’re required to have a prognostication of some kind, or else face immediate social exile and/or public stoning. You can’t just say, “We’ll see what the voters decide,” as that’s the moral equivalent of giving up. If you can’t speculate recklessly, THEY WIN.
A good all-purpose response is, “Don’t overlook the Ron Paul factor.” You can also impress with a highly specific but incomprehensible answer, such as, “I’m struck by how well Romney’s doing in California’s 48th Congressional.”
There is, however, a data point that we can examine at this hour. It’s the result from West Virginia, and it is portentous. According to the web site of the West Virginia Republican Convention, “Because West Virginia will know its results by midday, it gives West Virginia an enormous impact on the presidential race in 2008. “
The result: Huckaboom II.
Yes, Mike Huckabee is back, and with his West Virginia momentum he’s unstoppable. He hadn’t won so much as a game of Minesweeper since the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, but today he edged out Mitt Romney and won the entire slate of 18 delegates, at some sort of convention in Charleston. The West Virginians picked Huckabee even though Romney left Long Beach, Calif., after midnight and flew all through the wee hours of the morning in order to speak to them at breakfast time. Romney shoulda stayed wheels-down in Long Beach.

Here is an email I got from the Huckabee Campaign.
What a day! Thanks to the hard and tireless work of tens of thousands of supporters nationwide we scored terrific victories last night. You made calls, you sent emails, you wrote letters and waved signs and because of you we won: West Virginia, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia and we came oh so very close in Missouri and Oklahoma.Let’s celebrate a bit this morning, but we must now quickly shift our focus to the next states casting votes: Louisiana, Washington, Kansas, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Our campaign is already competitive in each of these states but we need to drive our momentum there and begin contacting voters immediately. Kansas, Louisiana and Washington all cast votes on Saturday and The “Chesapeake Primary” (DC, MD and VA) is next Tuesday. (NOTE: please hand out the link to this blog to anyone you know that lives in WA, you can print out the info cards I made and hand those out also)
Here is what I need from you this morning:1. Make lists of everyone you know in these states and send them an email asking them to vote for our campaign. If they are undecided please tell them to visit our campaign website to learn more about the issues we are fighting for and the kind of grassroots team we have assembled. If you don’t know anyone living in DC, MD, VA, KS, WA and LA, please email or phone people you know that support my campaign and ask them to get more involved. We need more volunteers, new contributors, and new supporters. Friends contacting friends and convincing them to participate is the secret to our success.2. If you are a Ranger please email your friends and family and ask them to contribute towards the amount you pledged to raise. If you have already raised what you pledged, please consider boosting your goal. Rangers helped raise over $200,000 over the last 6 days, but to compete effectively, over the next days we will need to double and triple that amount. If you aren’t a Ranger please consider signing up today. Rangers help raise funds for our campaign and helped place over 100,000 voter contact calls for our campaign to voters in Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida and Georgia.3. Make an immediate contribution of $25 or more today. I’m headed into a meeting with my campaign team now to review our resources and determine just what we need to propel our efforts in these next key states. I’ll drop you a note later today with a summary of our discussion. In the meantime, if at all possible, please make an immediate contribution today. The second half of this marathon race has begun. We are stronger, faster and most important, we are together.

John McCain is not the only Republican who is pleased with his showing the morning after Super Tuesday. Mike Huckabee has made a surprisingly strong showing among social conservatives in southern states, keeping his primary hopes alive.
Mr Huckabee won in five states, including Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas and West Virginia.
At his election headquarters in Little Rock, Arkansas, Mr Huckabee told his jubilant supporters he would fight on.
