Huckabee endorses ‘egg’ amendment

February 26, 2008

DENVER, Feb. 26 (UPI) — GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has endorsed a proposal to amend Colorado’s constitution to define a fertilized egg as a person, a published report said.

Huckabee — a former governor of Arkansas and Baptist minister — offered his endorsement Monday for the Colorado Human Life Amendment, The Denver Post reported.

The ballot initiative is being promoted by Kristi Burton, 20, and her organization, Colorado for Equal Rights.

“This proposed constitutional amendment will define a person as a human being from the moment life begins at conception,” Huckabee said in a statement. “With this amendment, Colorado has an opportunity to send a clear message that every human life has value.”

Backers of the initiative are trying to collect an estimated 76,000 petition signatures to get the measure on the November ballot.

If Colorado voters approve the measure, it would guarantee state constitutional rights to life, liberty, equality of justice and due process of law to every fertilized egg — and could set the stage for outlawing abortion in the state, the newspaper said.

On the trail in Texas

February 20, 2008

My candidacy is, and always has been, about convictions – and the issues and core values that are critical to our country’s future, such protecting traditional marriage, the sanctity of life, individual empowerment and a revamping of our federal tax code to encourage productivity. It’s about lifting Americans up, from hope to higher ground, with a positive vision for America’s future that is grounded in a belief in our nation’s basic goodness, and defined by a ‘can—do’ spirit that knows how to gets things done. My goal is to offer Republican voters, a voice and a choice in this election.

The last four out of five U.S. Presidents have been governors, and there is a reason for this: the challenges facing our nation require steady, experienced, executive management. As governor of Arkansas for 10 ½ years, I delivered on my promises to cut taxes 94 times, reduce welfare by half, reform health care for children and our education system, and transform our transportation infrastructure. My record of results, achieved with a Democrat legislature, gives a meaningful viability to my candidacy.

There are millions of Republicans from across this country who have yet to be heard from. Clearly we were disappointed by the results in Wisconsin, but I look forward to campaigning hard in Texas and Ohio this week – and taking my case before the good people of those states. I encourage you to leave a comment on our campaign blog today and share with me your thoughts.Emailing you from the road in Texas and with deep gratitude,

The First Question…

February 12, 2008

The first question I am often asked these days is: “Why are you still running for President?”

It is because I believe that I am the best candidate to represent you in the fall against the Democrats.  Why?  Because I have core conservative beliefs that I have never wavered from:

I believe in the Human Life Amendment and I will fight for it from Day 1 of my Presidency.

I believe in the Marriage Amendment.

I believe in massive tax reform and am an advocate of the FairTax.

I believe that President Bush’s tax cuts should be made permanent.

I believe in the Surge, our troops and General Petraeus.

I believe the 2nd amendment is one of the best ways to protect us from tyranny and I will work tirelessly to protect it from activist judges.
I believe in real border security and have proposed a detailed 9 point plan to secure our borders.

I believe the best judge is a conservative judge that won’t legislate from the bench.

These are some of the reasons why I am running for President and let me also say that YOU are another reason.  I am running to give you a voice in the process.  To lift up your voice with mine and to tell our Party and our government that we need to do better.  We need to think big and fight for our ideas.

There’s lots of voting left to be done before our Republican Party’s nominee is decided.

Share this blog post with your friends and family and spread the word.  We are still in this race and we are running hard.

Huckabee almost wins Washington State

February 10, 2008

Huckabee came close in  WA last night, falling about 250 votes short from winning the State with 87% of the precints reporting so far.   http://news.aol.com/elections/primary/state/wa/republicans

However, he did win Louisiana, though he did not get the 50% needed to claim the delegates.  The delegates will be decided at the Louisiana State convention next week.
Huckabee also took Kansas by an almost 3-1 margin over McCain.

Huckabee has shown he can win else where than the south!  Now on to Virginia!

‘Pro-Life’ McCain Receives Endorsement from GOP Pro-Choice Group…

February 9, 2008

Hmm,

The Republicans for Choice PAC has endorsed Pro-Life candidate John MCain for President:

(CNSNews.com) – The Republicans for Choice Political Action Committee has endorsed John McCain (R-Ariz.), saying he is the best candidate now that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is out of the presidential race.

The Republicans for Choice PAC supports Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, and also wants the Human Life Amendment removed from the plank of the Republican Party.

Republicans for Choice founder and Chairwoman Ann E.W. Stone told Cybercast News Service that McCain’s pro-life position wasn’t an issue.

“(McCain) is (pro-life), but it’s not at the top of his agenda, not like Huckabee or the born-again Romney,” Stone said. “He’s shown his willingness to reach across the party, and we look forward to those discussions.”

Interesting turn of events, but what do Pro-Life groups think about this:

Colleen Parro, executive director of the Republican National Coalition for Life, said the endorsement should make some Republicans uncomfortable.

“My first thought was how embarrassing for the pro-lifers who have signed on for McCain,” Parro said.

If you think this is bad, what about the Pro-Life Democrats, who don’t even have a candidate to consider who is running for President:

Another pro-life group, Democrats for Life of America, said they can’t find a candidate to endorse.

“None of the candidates fit our criteria,” Kristen Day, executive director of DFLA, told Cybercast News Service. “If we were to endorse Obama or Clinton, it would ruin our credibility.

“We are focused on the pro-life Democrats who are running for Congress, the U.S. Senate and in local races across the country.”

What exactly does this group know about John McCain’s true positions that we don’t. Why would a group that supports Roe vs. Wade, and abortion being their one and only issue, support a candidate who is Pro-Life who claims he will appoint Conservative judges, which would result in Roe vs. Wade being overturned.

Delegate Count – It’s Not Over!

February 8, 2008

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Even though the mainstream media has already crowned McCain the winner of the GOP nomination, Huckabee still stands a good chance of stealing the prize! The following is some important information, just in case you didn’t know…

1) According to RealClearPolitics McCain has 720 delegates & still needs 471 to win.
That means he has to get 44% of the remaining delegates to secure 1191.

2) So Huckabee needs to win 57% of the remaining delegates to force this to a Brokered Convention.

3) On Super Tuesday McCain got 42% of the vote in Blue States and only 26% in Red States. Over 60% of McCain’s delegates have come from Blue States. Do we really want our candidate picked by States that we have very little chance of winning in the Fall?

4) Remaining delegates: Red States = 711 [ 70.5% ], Blue States = 297 [ 29.5% ]

RED States Left:
=============
47 Louisiana
39 Kansas
63 Virginia
140 Texas
88 Ohio
39 Mississippi
69 North Carolina
57 Indiana
33 Nebraska
45 Kentucky
32 Idaho
32 New Mexico
27 South Dakota

5) Every time Republicans have gone to a Brokered Convention we have won!

Abraham Lincoln – 3rd Ballot – Won Presidency
Rutherford Hayes – 7th Ballot – Won Presidency
James Garfield – 36th Ballot – Won Presidency
Warning Harding – 10th Ballot – Won Presidency

6) Conservatives Unite! There is still time! Win the Red States and we go to the convention for a discussion about what it means to be a republican.

Hope this brings encouragement and hope. It is not over!

MSNBC: Huckabee Is Still In The Race

February 8, 2008

While everyone is proclaiming McCain the presumptive nominee after Romney’s exit, the GOP race still isn’t over. And do remember that McCain has never been a good front-runner — he has always seemed to trip up when in that position. Huckabee is still in the race, and his last stand is Virginia. He may not say it, but it’s pretty obvious when one looks at the potential Republican electorate. Should many indies and moderate Republicans decide their vote is better spent in the Dem primary, then Huckabee’s passionate evangelical supporters could be enough to keep things close. What does McCain do now? For one, he can’t completely act like he’s taking the nomination (and conservatives) for granted. He should do what he can to put Huckabee away for good on Tuesday. A big win by McCain over Huckabee in Virginia will do just that. The thing McCain has left to fear from conservatives who aren’t on board yet is a third party challenge, and that happens if he pokes conservatives in the eye or ignores them too quickly and moves too fast to the center.

Dobson endorses Huckabee!

February 7, 2008

James Dobson, one of the nation’s most prominent evangelical Christian leaders, backed Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid Thursday night, giving the former Arkansas governor a long-sought endorsement as the Republican field narrowed to a two-man race.In a statement first obtained by The Associated Press, Dobson reiterated his declaration on Super Tuesday that he could not in good conscience vote for John McCain, the front-runner, because of concerns over the Arizona senator’s conservative credentials.

Dobson said given the situation at that point, he was reluctant to choose between “two pro-family candidates whom I could support” — Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

But Dobson wrote that Romney’s announcement Thursday that he was suspending his campaign “changed the political landscape.”
