Huckabee endorses ‘egg’ amendment

February 26, 2008

DENVER, Feb. 26 (UPI) — GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee has endorsed a proposal to amend Colorado’s constitution to define a fertilized egg as a person, a published report said.

Huckabee — a former governor of Arkansas and Baptist minister — offered his endorsement Monday for the Colorado Human Life Amendment, The Denver Post reported.

The ballot initiative is being promoted by Kristi Burton, 20, and her organization, Colorado for Equal Rights.

“This proposed constitutional amendment will define a person as a human being from the moment life begins at conception,” Huckabee said in a statement. “With this amendment, Colorado has an opportunity to send a clear message that every human life has value.”

Backers of the initiative are trying to collect an estimated 76,000 petition signatures to get the measure on the November ballot.

If Colorado voters approve the measure, it would guarantee state constitutional rights to life, liberty, equality of justice and due process of law to every fertilized egg — and could set the stage for outlawing abortion in the state, the newspaper said.

‘Pro-Life’ McCain Receives Endorsement from GOP Pro-Choice Group…

February 9, 2008

Hmm,

The Republicans for Choice PAC has endorsed Pro-Life candidate John MCain for President:

(CNSNews.com) – The Republicans for Choice Political Action Committee has endorsed John McCain (R-Ariz.), saying he is the best candidate now that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is out of the presidential race.

The Republicans for Choice PAC supports Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, and also wants the Human Life Amendment removed from the plank of the Republican Party.

Republicans for Choice founder and Chairwoman Ann E.W. Stone told Cybercast News Service that McCain’s pro-life position wasn’t an issue.

“(McCain) is (pro-life), but it’s not at the top of his agenda, not like Huckabee or the born-again Romney,” Stone said. “He’s shown his willingness to reach across the party, and we look forward to those discussions.”

Interesting turn of events, but what do Pro-Life groups think about this:

Colleen Parro, executive director of the Republican National Coalition for Life, said the endorsement should make some Republicans uncomfortable.

“My first thought was how embarrassing for the pro-lifers who have signed on for McCain,” Parro said.

If you think this is bad, what about the Pro-Life Democrats, who don’t even have a candidate to consider who is running for President:

Another pro-life group, Democrats for Life of America, said they can’t find a candidate to endorse.

“None of the candidates fit our criteria,” Kristen Day, executive director of DFLA, told Cybercast News Service. “If we were to endorse Obama or Clinton, it would ruin our credibility.

“We are focused on the pro-life Democrats who are running for Congress, the U.S. Senate and in local races across the country.”

What exactly does this group know about John McCain’s true positions that we don’t. Why would a group that supports Roe vs. Wade, and abortion being their one and only issue, support a candidate who is Pro-Life who claims he will appoint Conservative judges, which would result in Roe vs. Wade being overturned.

Delegate Count – It’s Not Over!

February 8, 2008

THE CATHOLIC KNIGHT: Even though the mainstream media has already crowned McCain the winner of the GOP nomination, Huckabee still stands a good chance of stealing the prize! The following is some important information, just in case you didn’t know…

1) According to RealClearPolitics McCain has 720 delegates & still needs 471 to win.
That means he has to get 44% of the remaining delegates to secure 1191.

2) So Huckabee needs to win 57% of the remaining delegates to force this to a Brokered Convention.

3) On Super Tuesday McCain got 42% of the vote in Blue States and only 26% in Red States. Over 60% of McCain’s delegates have come from Blue States. Do we really want our candidate picked by States that we have very little chance of winning in the Fall?

4) Remaining delegates: Red States = 711 [ 70.5% ], Blue States = 297 [ 29.5% ]

RED States Left:
=============
47 Louisiana
39 Kansas
63 Virginia
140 Texas
88 Ohio
39 Mississippi
69 North Carolina
57 Indiana
33 Nebraska
45 Kentucky
32 Idaho
32 New Mexico
27 South Dakota

5) Every time Republicans have gone to a Brokered Convention we have won!

Abraham Lincoln – 3rd Ballot – Won Presidency
Rutherford Hayes – 7th Ballot – Won Presidency
James Garfield – 36th Ballot – Won Presidency
Warning Harding – 10th Ballot – Won Presidency

6) Conservatives Unite! There is still time! Win the Red States and we go to the convention for a discussion about what it means to be a republican.

Hope this brings encouragement and hope. It is not over!

Dobson endorses Huckabee!

February 7, 2008

James Dobson, one of the nation’s most prominent evangelical Christian leaders, backed Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid Thursday night, giving the former Arkansas governor a long-sought endorsement as the Republican field narrowed to a two-man race.In a statement first obtained by The Associated Press, Dobson reiterated his declaration on Super Tuesday that he could not in good conscience vote for John McCain, the front-runner, because of concerns over the Arizona senator’s conservative credentials.

Dobson said given the situation at that point, he was reluctant to choose between “two pro-family candidates whom I could support” — Huckabee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

But Dobson wrote that Romney’s announcement Thursday that he was suspending his campaign “changed the political landscape.”

Two Man Race

February 7, 2008

Interesting developments…

Mitt Romney ended his 2008 presidential bid today. That in effect makes Mike Huckabee the only viable contender against McCain for the GOP nomination. Now is the time for all conservatives to rally around Governor Huckabee; here are the top 5 reasons why:

1. Immigration: Mike signed a pledge today that was drafted by Sen. Sessions that he will make immigration a top priority as President. Mike is a man of his word and is the ONLY electable candidate who will END ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

2. Second Ammendment: Mike is the strongest candidate dedicated to defending the 2nd Ammendment – check out his record.

3. Tax Reform: It is utterly ludicrous to call Mike Huckabee an economic liberal. What he did in terms of cutting taxes in Arkansas was Revolutionary. He has the most conservative plan for federal taxes -eliminate the IRS and replace it with the flat consuption-based FAIR Tax.

4. Judges: In the next two presidential terms there are likely to be 3 vacancies in the US Supreme Court. Unlike Mike Huckabee, John McCain is not dedicated to appointing true conservative judges like Sam Alito who will support the sanctity of life, traditional marriage and the right to bear arms.

5. Communication: Mike is young, energetic and motivational. Not only will this give him a huge advantage in beating the Democratic Nominee (once he gets financial support of GOP), but it will make him the president who will unite the American people and get things done by selling concepts to the American people who will in turn compel their representatives (House and Senate) to support the President’s proposals.

Romney No Substitute for Huckabee

February 1, 2008

Here’s a great read by associated press writer Ron Jenkins.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Republican Mike Huckabee on Friday defended his previous remark that Mitt Romney didn’t reach “political puberty” until recently, saying he was referring to his presidential rival’s change of heart on key issues.

Speaking to 600 supporters jammed into a restaurant-bar in Oklahoma City, Huckabee said he has been consistent on issues dear to conservatives such as abortion, gun control and gay rights, while Romney has shifted his positions.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, was once “very pro-choice” and supported “strong positions for same-sex-relations,” Huckabee said.

“He said on television that he would do more for the gay-lesbian agenda than Ted Kennedy. That’s pretty bold. He said on television that he was not part of the Reagan Revolution, said that he was not part of that Reagan-Bush thing. That’s on camera.”

The former Arkansas governor, who acknowledged making the “political puberty” remark in a cable television interview, said Romney claims to be a gun rights supporter, but cannot be a “true Second Amendment” supporter because he supports an assault weapons ban.

“I think you can’t just have a change of opinion on fundamental issues over and over and wait until you’re running for president to do it,” Huckabee said.

“To say you never thought about the origins of human life until you were nearly 60 years old, I find that hard to believe, even for someone who hadn’t run for public office,” he added.
